George Floyd Death: Bail Set For $ 1million For Three Officers

Three police officers, charged in George Floyd’s death, have been granted bail by a judge at $1 million each, or $750,000 under certain conditions. A judge has set bail under conditions including they do not work in law enforcement or are connected to Floyd’s family. J. Alexander Kueng, Thomas Lane, and Tou Thao appeared in court one day after they were arrested. They were charged with aiding and abetting second-degree murder and aiding and abetting second-degree manslaughter. Derek Chauvin, the officer who chocked Floyd’s neck for around 9 munites, was also charged. He was charged with third-degree murder and second-degree manslaughter. However, he was then charged with second-degree murder on Wednesday. All these officers appeared before Judge Paul R. Scoggin at a downtown Minneapolis courtroom. Thao’s lawyer told that Thao has given a statement to the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension and has turned himself in when the arrest warrant was issued. A lawyer for George Floyd has said in a memorial service that a “pandemic of racism” caused his death. lawyer Benjamin Crump said it was “not the coronavirus pandemic that killed George Floyd”. “It was that other pandemic,” he said. “The pandemic of racism and discrimination.” Members of Mr. Floyd’s family, the Reverend Jesse Jackson, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, Minnesota Senator Amy Klobuchar, and Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey were at the service at North Central University in downtown Minneapolis.
